Aloha Launches World’s First Commercial Product with Ponova™ Oil by Terviva
Terviva, a regenerative food and ag innovation company recently announced a partnership with ALOHA, an award-winning, plant-based protein brand, to use Ponova™ oil as a new ingredient in its special edition Kona bar.
ALOHA’s Kona Bar is the first-ever commercial product to include Ponova™ oil. It features local, Hawaiʻi-grown ingredients like Ponova™ oil made from the beans of pongamia trees on Oʻahu’s North Shore and Kona coffee, macadamia nuts from Hawaiʻi island.
Supporting local agriculture and community, the bars showcase artwork by Honolulu artist Kelsie Dayna Kalohi with 10% of sales being donated directly to Kupu, Hawai’i’s leading youth-focused conservation non-profit.
“From our first tree plantings on Opaeula Ridge in 2014 until our first commercial harvest last year, Terviva has always had a special connection to Hawaiʻi. It’s why we’re excited to announce that Ponova™ oil’s first product launch will be from Hawaiʻi,” said Naveen Sikka, founder and CEO of Terviva. “Aloha shares in our commitment for cultivating a better future for the land and communities who produce our food.”
Ponova™ oil is a lightly refined and versatile vegetable oil made from the beans of the climate- resilient pongamia tree, a super tree that revitalizes the land and communities where it’s grown. Historically used for reforestation in Asia, pongamia sequesters carbon while improving soil health and water quality. From tree to plate, Terviva harvests and transforms pongamia beans into delicious, premium Ponova™ oil which can be used across an array of in-demand food applications to enhance product formulation. Climate-friendly Ponova™ oil offers companies the opportunity to increase their positive impact on our planet through the use of a more sustainable ingredient that supports the farming communities who produce it.
