Cargill Partners with Kokomodo to Advance Cell‑Based Cocoa Innovation Backed by EIT Food

Cargill has teamed up with Israeli startup Kokomodo to fast‑track the development of cell‑based cocoa, supported by the EU’s EIT Food Proof‑of‑Concept Co‑Financing Instrument.

The partnership will evaluate how Kokomodo’s cultivated cocoa performs in real‑world industrial applications, with a focus on functionality, sensory experience, and scalability. With cacao production increasingly threatened by climate change and supply chain instability, both companies see cell‑based ingredients as a pathway to greater resilience and sustainability. This initiative builds on EIT Food’s ongoing support for Kokomodo, which entered the market through accelerator funding and RisingFoodStars recognition.

As the industry shifts toward climate‑proof cocoa solutions, both Cargill and Kokomodo will further discuss this future‑focused work at Future Food‑Tech San Francisco, where Cargill’s Chief Technology Officer and Vice President for Innovation and Research & Development, Florian Schattenmann, will explore Strengthening the Innovations Fueling Food System Transformation. Kokomodo will also be appearing as a Featured Scale‑Up pitching their solutions on the Innovation Stage on the afternoon of Day 2.
